Earth needs to find room for a substantial increase in the human population over the next century. A new model indicates that if current growth trends don't change dramaally, there will be around 4 billion extra people knocking around the planet by 2100.

Based on current models of growth, the human population will boom up to 9.7 billion in 2050 from its current figure of 7.3 billion. Even more shockingly, it will continue to expand to 11.2 billion by the end of the century if fertility rates do not drop. These findings were announced by John R. Wilmoth, director of the United Nations Population Division, at the 2015 Joint Statisal Meetings in Seattle.

The alarming findings were made using population models of demographic change from historical data. The resulting population estimates range between 9.5 and 13.3 billion people in 2100. This is the scenario that the world seriously faces if fertility rates continue at their current rate. The chief contributor to the population increase are regions in sub-Saharan Africa.

While only predictions, the statiss are important for policymakers to keep in mind when planning for the future. For example, the model predicts that the U.S. will be accommodating 1.5 million extra people each year until the end of the century. By 2100, the population will have increased by a third: This is an increase from 322 million civilians to 450 million.

It is these sorts of findings that poliians should be paying attention to in order to better prepare nations for the increased number of people they will need to accommodate and feed. A major upheaval of policies regarding energy, health care, jobs and pensions will ly be required when the increase in population stresses national governments. Issues such as pollution management and crime will also ly become more complicated.

Developing countries – such as China, Brazil and India – will possibly face some of the most drama social changes. Their populations are composed mostly of young people, and as their population ages and grows, the question will be whether there is support in place for this longer lifestyle.

Metropolitan areas with a population of over 10 million are called megacities, and currently, there
are 37 of them dotted around the planet. Included in this number are Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, Japan’s

exception and keeps growing, boasting the largest number of people of all the cities in the world.

rush-hour trains during weekdays. Sightseeing spots, too, are always crowded and even when walking down
the street in a popular area, it is often hard to not bump into someone all the time. Tokyo city itself has a
population os 13 million people and it houses about 10% of the population of all of Japan. If you include
the neighboring perfectures of Kanagawa, Saitama, and Chiba, the total population reaches 38 million

You know, in 2011, the total population of the world reached 7 billion. And today, it's about 7.5 billion. Tokyo, with 37.8 million residents, continues to be the largest city in the world in terms of population.

Advances in modern medicine are the main cause of this dramatic growth in the world population. It helps the birth rates increase and the death rates decline. The second contributor is the improvement in living standards. This leads to the rise of global lifespan, from 64.8 years in the early 1990s to 70.0 years today. Last but not least, the number of women of reproductive age is increasing day by day.

However, the rapid population growth can lead to the shortage in medical and educational facilities and services. The population grows fast so the demand for energy also increases. Therefore, energy shortages are also a big problem. In addition, air, water and land pollution caused by growing population in big cities has bad effects on people's health.

Question 2: The global population today is 37 million.

The world needs to do more to prepare for the impact of a rapidly ageing population, the UN has warned - particularly in developing countries. Within 10 years the number of people aged over 60 will pass one billion, a report by the UN Population Fund said. The demographic shift will present huge challenges to countries’ welfare, pension and healthcare systems. The UN agency also said more had to be done to tackle "abuse, neglect and violence against older persons".

The number of older people worldwide is growing faster than any other age group. The report, Ageing in the let Century: A Celebration and a Challenge, estimates that one in nine people around the world are older than 60. The elderly population is expected to swell by 200 million in the next decade to surpass one billion, and reach two billion by 2050. This rising proportion of older people is a consequence of success - improved nutrition, sanitation, healthcare, education and economic well-being are contributing factors, the report says.

But the UN and a charity that also contributed to the report, Help Age International, say the ageing population is being widely mismanaged. "In many developing countries with large populations of young people, the challenge is that governments have not put policies and practices in place to support their current older populations or made enough preparations for 2050," the agencies said in a joint statement.

The word "abuse" in the first paragraph could be best replaced by ________.
