The Earth Day
Earth Day is an ANNUAL event created to celebrate the planet's environment and raise public awareness about pollution. Each year, Earth Day- April 22- marks the ANNIVERSARY of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. The first Earth Day was in 1970.Nelson,after seeing the damate done by a 1969 massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California, was inspired to organize a natinal "teach-in" that focused on educating the PUBLIC about the environment.
Earth Day started to GAIN world-wide popularity in 1990 when 200 milion people in over 140 nations participated in activities around the globe.The numbers only INCREASED from there.
