- Dùng needn’t have + PP: diễn tả sự việc lẽ ra không cần làm trong quá khứ nhưng đã làm

Ex: I needn’t have brought the umberella because I didn’t rain: Tôi lẽ ra không cần mang ô vì trời không mưa.

Tạm dịch: “Hướng dẫn viết bằng tiếng Pháp và tôi đã dịch sang tiếng Anh cho cậu ấy.” – “Anh lẽ ra không cần dịch làm gì. Cậu ấy biết tiếng Pháp mà.”

Chú ý cách dùng một số MODAL PERFECT khác: Modal Verb + have + PP

- shouldn’t have PP: lẽ ra không nên làm gì trong quá khứ (nhưng đã làm).

Ex: You shouldn’t have done that: Bạn lẽ ra không nên làm điều đó.

- can’t have + PP:

     + Dùng để chỉ một sự việc gần như chắc chắn không thể xảy ra.

Ex: Last night, Mary can’t have gone out with John because she had to be at home to do her homework: Tối qua, Mary không thể đi chơi với John được vì cô ấy phải ở nhà làm bài tập.

     + Dùng trong câu cảm thán với trạng từ “surely”.
