A great deal of what you write is intended to convince the reader that you have an important point to make. When you write a letter applying for a job you want to convince the reader that you are the right person for the job. When you write a review of a film you want to convince the reader that you have something important to say about the film, and maybe you recommend it, or, on the other hand, suggest that it is not worth seeing. In an essay on some aspect of American government you want to convince the reader that you can answer the questions that have been posed and that you can throw light on specific aspects of American government. In all these three examples you want to show your reader that you have something sensible and important to say about the topic that is under discussion.You do this by arguing your case. You offer “a line of argument” keeping it within the framework of the chosen topic. For example, your letter of application for a job has a presentation of yourself and your qualifications as its framework. “You” are the topic! It might therefore be relevant to mention your hobbies in your letter. If you are applying for a job in a bookshop it would be sensible to point out that reading is one of your hobbies, if it is. You include this in the line of argument running through the letter, perhaps giving this information after you have listed your education and other formal qualifications. You do not, however, spend a paragraph writing about your brother’s or sister’s hobbies. That would be irrelevant. Information about them falls outside the framework you have constructed.

Similarly, if the topic is American government and the question is “Does the President have too much power?” you do not write about American geography or American sports. You write about the mechanics of political power in the USA, showing step by step whether, in your view, the President does or does not have too much power.

You must, then, avoid irrelevance. Keep a sharp focus on your topic.

I don't agree that opinion. If you just learn Math ,Literature and English ,you just good at 3 of these. You have to learn another subject to know about what happen to the world. You learn Geography to know geographical location , this subject can help you capture the place easily . You learn technology to know how to fix electricity. The most important subject is writing. Not literature, but writing. This will be critical no matter what you do, whether you’re a nurse, an administrative assistant, or the president of the free world. And the understanding of maths must be considered the criterion for intelligence as well. Maths is life and no subject can run without maths. All the problems in the world required maths to solve it. Same way, anything requiring calculations is dependent on maths like every step even you make. Without proper calculations one may succeed accidentally in getting something but to continue getting the same results one surely has find what calculations made the success possible. Futhermore, English is an universal language, once you know how to speak, write and read English, you can talk to whoever and whenever, it especially good for your higher education like when you go to the college or university because some books are written in English. In conclusion, I think that students must study many things including Maths and Literature and English in order to succeed in the modern world.

Some people believe that teaching academic subjects should be the principal aproach of schools to prepare students for better jobs in their future, while alternative subjects such as music and sports are considered as wasting time. Personally, I think that both types of subjects could be practical, and I therefore disagree with the statement that music and sports are not useful subjects.

On the one hand, alternative courses could sometimes be helpful for future careers. For example, learning how to sing or play a musical instrument could bring benefits for students in networking events or having job promotions. My cousin once told me about his experience when he got a promotion as a marketing manager for his talent and bravery because he volunteered to perform a show at his company event for clients. Another course that I find helpful and essential is sports. In my opinion, sports could bring benefits to students because they help them to improve their strength to work under pressure or they could expand their professional network by playing sports with their colleagues or partners.

On the other hand, schools should teach students academic subjects because they will help them to pursue their dreams on professional area. If students want to be scientists or biologists, they need to have basic knowledge of academic subjects such as mathematics, geography, biology, which should be taught at school before enrolling in universities or going to work. In my case, it took me around one year to study basic knowledge of Probality and Mathematical Statistics at highschool for pursuing my dream job as a Maket Researcher at university.

In conclusion, academic subjects are essential for students, but subjects such as music and sports could be equally practical and helpful for different circumstances.

The most important subject is writing. Not literature, but writing.
