I. When the pop group arrived at the airport the police had put up a barrier to keep the excited crowd away. Just as the group appeared some young girls began to scream and this sparked off such a surge of excitement that the police thought it wiser to whisk them away in severap cars. When the realized that they had missed seeimg their idols the disappointed crowd began to drift out

When we set off from London our plan was to drive through to Scotland. After some time, howerver, we heard over the car radio that all the roads in the North were frozen................so we turned around and drove back to London.

to whisk sb away = to move sb out of the way rapidly

to drift out = to move out of a place slowly

Chưa thấy tobe frozen + prep bao giờ :))) "...all the roads in the North froze over..." thì đúng hơn.
