Ana's current age (a) is what maria's age was x years ago
a = 24 - x
x years ago, Maria's age (24 - x) was twice Ana's age (a - x)
2(a - x) = 24 - x
put 24 - x in for a in the second equation:
2(24 - x - x) = 24 - x
48 - 4x = 24 - x
24 = 3x
8 = x
Plug this back into a = 24 - x to find a, Ana's current age:
a = 24 - 8
Ana is currently 16.
