Listen about the traffic in Vietnam and choose the correct answer.
How many percentages of interviewees used public transportation in the past 3 months?
How many percentages of respondents are satisfied with their experience when using public transportation?
What is the main reason why people do not use public transportation?
What of the following aspects is NOT mentioned as the disadvantages of public transportation?
What do people in Ho Chi Minh City worry about?
Traffic jams are a problem in many major cities, and Vietnam's no exception. But we don't have to depend on complicated, costly solutions. We do need clarity and determination, though.
First, we should separate the working hours of different social sectors. I suggest changing the working hours of public offices to 10 a.m., which would be different from those of private companies. This would dramatically reduce the flow of people traveling early in the morning.
Second, we should deal with the traveling needs of students with strong determination. In Hanoi and HCMC, millions of children are taken to school by parents every day before they go to work. Many parents are worried about the safety of their children when using existing buses, with many cases of pick-pocketing or small accidents reported often.
Third, we should change how society views public transportation. Public transportation should represent any means of travel other than personal vehicles. So apart from buses and trains, public transportation should include taxis and motorcycle taxis.
Last but not least, the current division of traffic lanes is not suitable. As cars are supposed to drive on the left-most side of the road, they frequently need to change to the right lane before turning or stopping at a building, creating a lot of jams on the route. We need to reorganize the division of traffic lanes to create a smoother driving experience for all vehicles.
We need to think carefully to solve the problem effectively and improve the residents' lives.
